CIA Probe: White House Smoke and Mirrors Investigation

Roll Call's Emily Pierce addresses how Republicans denounce the White House and Attoney General Eric Holder's decision to authorize an independent probe of allegations that U.S. intelligence officials may have tortured suspected terrorists. Quotes from Republicans are as follows:

Senate Intelligence Committee ranking member Kit Bond (R-Mo.) called the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate whether CIA operatives broke the law when they used harsh interrogation tactics a “witch hunt targeting the terror fighters who have kept us safe since 9/11. With a criminal investigation hanging over the agency’s head, every CIA terror fighter will be in [cover your ass] mode,” Bond continued.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), meanwhile, called Holder’s move a “poor and misguided decision.”

On the House side, Intelligence ranking member Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) said Holder’s probe would distract the CIA from current counterterrorism efforts and called the Justice Department “intractably stuck in reverse.”
“The message from the administration is completely confused, and the men and women at the CIA who we ask to protect our nation have been left in the lurch,” Hoekstra said in a statement. “Disgruntled lawyers at DOJ, having lost the debate that America’s counterterrorism efforts should be focused on prevention not prosecution, need to put an end to this bureaucratic turf battle.”

Even the Obama administration was lukewarm in their reception of this decision by Holder.
"The President has said repeatedly that he wants to look forward, not back, and the President agrees with the Attorney General that those who acted in good faith and within the scope of legal guidance should not be prosecuted,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement. “Ultimately, determinations about whether someone broke the law are made independently by the Attorney General.”

(such bunk by the White House press secretary). There's even word that CIA director Leon Panetta may resign over this decision by the White House.

This independent investigation is a strategic ploy by the White House to distract attention from their failed policies to date, especially their health care reform marketing policy. However this will backfire on them as has all of their policy strategies to date, i.e., stimulus bill, cash for clunkers, health care reform, Obama's "America's Apology" tour overseas, his America is not a Christian nation quote and America could be regarded as a Muslim nation quote, etc. Quite a track record for attempting to undermine and/or destroy the fabrics of America from Mr. Obama and in quick time with only a little over 6 months in office.

The CIA has protected us for almost 9 years through their intelligence policies and techniques. This action on behalf of Holder and the White House is another example of the danger of having radical liberals in control of our country . They care more about the welfare and "rights' of those who wake up every morning plotting and planning to destroy us and our families; those who have no rights whatsoever under the Geneva convention. This administration is about change, change for the worse from a Bush administration which regarded the U.S. and it's citizens' national security and welfare as their highest priority.

Also, by-the-by, wasn't Eric Holder, our illustrious AttorneyGeneral and now chief enemy of the CIA which lives and dies to protect America, the same Eric Holder, while Deputy Attorney General under Clinton, who pushed for the release of 16 violent FALN terrorists against the advice of the FBI, the US Attorneys who prosecuted them and the NYPD officers who were maimed by them? This man is not suited for the job of attorney general, which is central to the issues surrounding the disposition of war on terror detainees.

We all knew these sorts of policies would develop under a democratic presidency, especially one that cares more about the welfare of our enemies than the country they were elected to serve and protect. Just hark back to Obama's associations with Bill Ayres and Rev. Wright and we know the kind of people our President cavorts with-who you associate with defines you. No hope nor change my friends, just more of the same we have always expected from such liberal, socialist democrats such as Obama, et al.

We are on our own and must continue to confront this administration, although civilly and respectfully. They are truly dangerous, but as most bullys, they will back off if they realize they cannot intimidate Americans. The health care Town Halls are a prime example of how Americans will not allow presidential administrations and Congressional leaderships that have plans to undermine and destroy the economic, social and national security fabric of this country in order to succeed with their dangerous agendas.
