Comrade Obama's Marxist Ascent: Pravda Knows Best

There have been numerous claims that Barack Obama is a socialist-Marxist or, at a minimum, has exhibited behavior representative of such beliefs. A snippet of those claims are as follows.

The American Thinker writes,

“Barack Obama has a thing for Marxists. He befriends them, listens to their counsel, and he even hires them to work in his campaign. And they seem to feel the warmth.”

Bill Kristol writes in the New York Times,
"My occasion for spending a little time once again with the old Communist was Barack Obama’s now-famous comment at an April 6 San Francisco fund-raiser. Obama was explaining his trouble winning over small-town, working-class voters: “It’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” This sent me to Marx’s famous statement about religion in the introduction to his “Contribution to the Critique of Hegel’s Philosophy of Right”: “Religious suffering is at the same time an expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the sentiment of a heartless world, and the soul of a soulless condition. It is the opium of the people.”

And the Dakota Voice also shares Obama’s connections to avowed Marxists or Marxist supporters by writing,
“attempts to argue that Barack Obama himself is a Marxist, given his past connections with known Marxists, have abounded on the Internet and on conservative talk radio, especially prior to the November election. That those connections do exist is hardly a matter for debate. Abundant evidence has been cited to show that his long-time mentor and father figure in Hawaii, Frank Marshall Davis, was a full-blown, active member of the Communist Party. After coming to Chicago, Obama for years attended the church of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, an ardent and vocal advocate of Black Liberation Theology, a movement with its roots planted firmly in Marxism. Obama also had extensively documented contact in Chicago with Bill Ayers, former member of the Marxist-influenced Weather Underground, and a self-identified Marxist.

Certainly all of the above are factual, non-debatable representations of President Obama’s behavior and relationships. President Obama’s “share the wealth” campaign mantra, his socialist health care reform and stimulus bills, his governmental takeover of automotive and financial institutions, executive compensation control legislation, his 2009 “Apologize for America” tours and his appointments of Obama “Green Jobs” czar Van Jones, an avowed Marxist, are all examples of how he has proactively embraced socialist-Marxist agendas.

President Obama’s father wrote a paper called "Problems With Our Socialism" that advocates 100% taxation of the rich, communal ownership of land and the forced confiscation of privately controlled land. His mother was a communist sympathizer, his mother and father met in a Russian class and both his brother and cousin are Marxists.

But who better to see the evidence on this point than Pravda. In a little known but alarming 4/27/09 article in Pravda by Stanislav Mishin entitled “American Capitalism Gone with a Whimper”, Mr. Mishin comments on the subtle shift to Marxism in America by noting, “It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.”

Mr. Mishin cites three reasons for the sudden break in the U.S. capitalistic dam that was chipped away by American progressives leading to it’s descent into Marxism.
  • First, the progressive liberals systematic effort to dumb- down the population through a politicized and substandard education system.
  • Second, faith in God destroyed by monetization of faith through televangelists leading to the population’s lack of honest faith-based initiatives.
  • Third, and most profound and prophetic, is the election of Barack Obama as U.S. President. Pravda writes, “the final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.”

Much has been written and noted by U.S. commentators on the suspicious agenda of President Obama. Some commentators are still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that his intentions are good, but his policies are flawed and have been nay to label him as one who believes in Marxist ideals. This may be because they are unwilling to admit this distasteful fact and/or feel it would do a disservice to the citizens causing anxiety and fear. However for many commentators they believe Barack Obama is a Marxist and are in league with him, but want to subvert the obvious to keep his Marxist agenda on a non-disruptive track.

Regardless of the “is he or isn’t he” debate, the best single source of the truth as to whether Mr. Obama is a socialist-Marxist is those who have actually lived through that ideological world, ergo, Pravda knows best.

". . . mentor and father figure in Hawaii, Frank Marshall Davis, was a full-blown, active member of the Communist Party"?

Au contraire! Your claims regarding Davis are far from "factual, non-debatable representations of President Obama’s behavior and relationships."

Why do you post that Obama was mentored by Frank Marshall Davis? Because conservative firebrand Cliff Kincaid said so? "Dreams From My Father" belies that claim.

Although Obama's book indicates "Frank" was a family friend who offered him advice on racial issues, Obama wrote that Davis "fell short" and his views were "incurable." Obama did not even visit Davis for three years before going to college. Obama's book, itself, proves that Obama did not consider Davis to be a "wise and trusted counselor," which is the definition of "mentor." By what creative definition can Davis be considered his "mentor"?

Even according to "Accuracy In Media" (AIM), Davis was only a closet member, not a "full-blown, active member of the Communist Party."

Do you have any evidence to support your claims, or are they pure speculation?

I imagine you agree with everything else in the post, so to offer support on your 1 point please note the attached URL from AIM. Give it up my friend, stop the Obama spin. If you are a socialist-Marxist yourself then you should be proud of Obama.
http://www.aim.org/aim-column/obamas-communist-mentor/

However, through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his "poetry" and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, "Dreams From My Father", refers to him repeatedly as just "Frank."

Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What's more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations.

Recommend you read your own reference. AIM reported Davis was not a full-blown active member. He was a CLOSET member. Do you know the difference?

AIM also claimed Davis was his mentor, but their relationship does not meet the definition. Once again: What definition of "mentor" does the relationship meet?

By exaggerating evidence that Davis advised Obama, yet ignoring evidence from the same source that Obama did NOT Frank to be a wise and trusted advisor, those who claim Davis was Obama's "mentor" are as dishonest as ex-D.A. Mike Nifong. The "Nifong Syndrome" is the stacking of evidence by ignoring evidence that does not fit one's agenda.

By portraying Davis as Obama's mentor, despite conclusive evidence to the contrary, fraudulent "opposition research" by Cliff Kincaid and others permeates the blogosphere. Their travesty of journalistic ethics demonstrates that they are unreliable sources of information on the Davis-Obama relationship. As the epitome of contemporary propaganda, Cliff Kincaid may be a worthy successor to Reich Minister Joseph Goebbels.

It is indeed regrettable that so many honest people have been hoodwinked by Kincaid's ironically named "Accuracy In Media" (AIM). Fraudulent memes, unwittingly propagated by well-intentioned bloggers, have spread throughout the blogosphere, which proves the effectiveness of viral disinformation campaigns. Even the title of Kincaid's initial attack, "Obama's Communist Mentor," is itself a masterful deception. Through the "fallacy of equivocation*," it implies three enduring falsehoods:

- That Davis was an avowed or known communist who advocated collectivist principles. The evidence, however, indicates that Davis was a closet communist who never advocated communism.

- That Davis had a continuing mentorship with teenage Obama, "almost like a son." Evidence, however, indicates that Davis was an occasionally visited family friend whom Obama did not even see for three years before college.

- That Davis taught communism to young Obama. The evidence, however, indicates that although Davis offered advice on racial issues, Obama did not even trust that advice.

(*The "fallacy of equivocation" is the misleading use of a term with more than one meaning or sense, by glossing over which meaning is intended at a particular time. It occurs when an equivocal word or phrase makes an unsound argument appear sound. It deceives through ambiguity.)

“The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” Hamlet Act 3, scene 2, 222–230. you must be a fan of Mr. Clinton also, i.e., (“It depends on what the meaning of the words 'is' is.”) with your, as you say, equivocation of the word mentor and closet communist is ridiculous.

Let’s try this one more time and please let’s get this over with. A mentor is defined by most dictionaries as “a wise and trusted counselor, teacher, influential senior sponsor or supporter. “Gerald Horne, a contributing editor of Political Affairs magazine, claimed that "Frank" was Davis, and that he was a "decisive influence" in helping Obama to find his present identity as an African-American.” Gee, does that meet the definition of mentor (‘is, is’)! And Marshall wasn’t just his mentor he was his FATHER!! Are we good now??
Kathryn Takara of the University of Hawaii, who wrote a dissertation on the life of Frank Marshall Davis, confirmed Davis was a significant influence on Obama when the senator attended Punahou prep school in Hawaii from 1975 to 1979 A transcript of a 1956 hearing before the Senate Internal Security Subcommittee discovered by internal security affairs researcher and writer Max Friedman showed Davis took the Fifth Amendment when asked by the subcommittee if he was or had ever been a member of the Communist Party. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=65066

You seem to be obsessed with Kincaid and his reporting on Davis. Personally, I don’t care about Davis. He was a communist and Kincaid was correct and you can go through life ignoring facts all you want and believe what you want to rationalize. I struck a chord with you and it hurt. Give it up my friend. You ObamaBots are soooo exasperating and frustrating with your defense of Obama and his background.

My friend you are so confused. The post was about Obama being a socialist-Marxist, which he undoubtedly is based on his history, associations and the socialist agenda you and I are living through right this minute. Just admit it- he is what he is. A socialist-Marxist with a background in that ideology that rivals Kant, Hegel and Marx. If you are happy with that then so be it. BUT YOU HAVE YET TO DISPUTE THAT FACT WHICH IS THE POINT OF THE POST. AGAIN, YOU OBAMABOTS ARE AN EXASPERATING LOT.

You see Mr. Socialist, this is still America, the land of the free and the home of the brave. We are allowing you freedom of speech. We will not let Obama and others like him such as those of your hate-America ilk to stormtroop in with your Chekas and change our great nation on our watch.

Kaleokualoha said...

No, that does NOT meet the definition of "mentor" because Obama did NOT consider Davis to be "wise and trusted." His book proves it. Capiche?

Further, your assertion that Davis is his father is prima facie evidence of a delusional state. It violates the canons of ethical journalism and suggests residency in Right-Wing Fantasyland (see http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/Kaleokualoha/gG59cf).

BTW: I don't really care about the others falsehoods you spew. I am only interested in the disinformation regarding Frank Marshall Davis.

Agan with the what 'is, is' on mentoring. YES IT DOES MEET THE DEFINITION BY ALL ACCOUNTS. THE BODY OF WORK IS OVERWHELMING!! EXASPERATING. I guess your mantra is to "never let the facts get in the way of a good story". America has and always will successfully battle internal enemies such as yourself. That is what makes us great. If you didn't think so yourself you would have moved to VietNam, N. Korea or communist China by now to be with your 'friends'. Keep up the delusions my friend along with your meds.

I'll make you feel better and give you the last word since I'm a gracious American. I have more important things to do in my life than debate delusional socialists such as yourself.

Did Obama consider Davis to be "wise and trusted" or not? His book proves he did not, when he said Davis "fell short" and his views were "incurable." Where is YOUR evidence (quotations!) that he did?

Such rhetorical deception was highlighted in the story of Alice's adventures in "Through The Looking-Glass,"

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone. "It means just what I choose it to mean - neither more or less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."
"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master - that's all."

I think if it quacks like a duck but is called a turkey by some it may actually be a duck.

If he was advised and sympathetic to the ideas of an older friend he was mentored for purposes of this discussion.

Kaleokualoha said...

If he did not consider the older friend to be "wise and trusted," he was not mentored, by definition. Sorry, but you can't make up definitions to suit your agenda. That's dishonest reporting.

A fair weather commitment to the truth is a false commitment to the truth. Such equivocation perpetuates a persistent, persuasive and unrealistic myth, and belies any commitment to the truth. Follow the evidence!

As a retired Air Force Intelligence Officer with specific training in Deception Analysis by the C.I.A. in 1989, I am researching the persistence of disinformation in the blogosphere. I am familiar with disinformation campaigns, including Pope Gregory's misrepresentation of Mary Magdalene, Russian and German misrepresentation of Judaism, Operation Fortitude protecting the D-Day invasion, Operation Left Hook protecting the coalition drive into Kuwait, and the misrepresentation of the Iraqi threat this century.

This disinformation campaign fits the pattern epitomized by "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," where a target is smeared through deliberate misrepresentation. Relying on unsubstantiated claims of mentorship to implicate Obama makes no more sense than relying on Curveball's unsubstantiated claims of mobile weapons labs to implicate Iraq.

Cliff Kincaid and his colleagues designed an elaborate scam. Instead of fake jewelry, they fake opposition research. They present false information about Frank Marshall Davis, like the Bush administration presented false information about the Iraqi threat. Both were the product of disinformation campaigns designed to frame their targets for imaginary offenses, because their actual behavior was insufficient. They combined fact with fabrication to create a tapestry of historical fiction, not unlike "The DaVinci Code."

I still await your EVIDENCE that Obama considered Davis to be "wise and trusted."

Kaleokualoha, Please get a life. OBAMA LOOKED UP TO HIM, SAT WITH HIM, LISTENED TO HIM, DAVIS READ TO HIM. I've had mentors in my life and had the exact same relationship.
Good Lord get over it. Please go bother some other site after you take your meds. I'm starting to think this is a gag on your part. You just can't be serious.

Just wondering K. Any fake information coming out of your buddy Obama's camp? Oh, say, about his health care bill? Any sort of, kind of disinformation there buddy boy?

Kaleokualoha said...

Sure they did all of those things, ("LOOKED UP TO HIM, SAT WITH HIM, LISTENED TO HIM, DAVIS READ TO HIM") but that is not mentorship, by definition. Dictionaries are handy references. You might consider using one.

Your contention, on the other hand, meets the definition of a half-truth because it misrepresents belief as fact:

(A half-truth comes in several forms, and is a deceptive statement that includes some element of truth. The purpose and or consequence of a half-truth is to make something that is really only a belief appear to be knowledge, or a truthful statement to represent the whole truth, or possibly lead to a false conclusion.)

If you have actual facts, containing information that meets standard definitions, please advise! Truth, supported by empirical evidence rather than mere speculation, would be appreciated.
